MIT in 3:00 IAP Filmmaking Workshop

Thursday, January 29 @ 10:00 am 5:00 pm

Interested in submitting a short film for the “MIT in 3:00” competition, but want to learn more about filmmaking? Join the MIT in 3:00 staff for a 1-day workshop during IAP!

Learn about storytelling through film. This hands-on workshop will be a survey of the audiovisual elements of filmmaking: camerawork, including frame composition and point-of-view strategies, lighting, sound recording, and basic techniques for film editing. Participants will use their personal smartphones to capture footage in teams, and then edit content into a short film for presentation at the end of the day.

Bring your smartphone for filming, and your own laptop with iMovie installed (if this is not possible for you, let us know in your registration form and we will try to have a Mac workstation available; smartphones cannot be provided). Lunch will be available for workshop participants. This session is made possible by the Chris Pomiecko Memorial Fund, and is limited to 20 participants.

About the Competition

Inspired by Antje Ehmann’s and Harun Farocki’s world-wide video project “Labour in a Single Shot,” which explored the subject of work through short video clips, MIT in 3:00 asks competitors — What is your MIT? And can you show it in 3 minutes?
