Description
The School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS), at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in Cambridge, Massachusetts, invites applications for a full-time, open rank, tenure-eligible position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in Native American Studies, beginning July 1, 2023, or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. The appointment will be in one of the following academic units: Anthropology, Comparative Media Studies/Writing, History, Linguistics, Literature, Music and Theater Arts, or Science, Technology, and Society. A PhD in a field in the Humanities, Arts, or Social Sciences with a specialization in Native American Studies is required by the start of employment.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must make major scholarly contributions to Native American Studies, including using theoretical and methodological approaches to research and knowledge production rooted in Native American and Indigenous cultures. We encourage candidates who seek to engage and benefit Native American communities through their scholarship, teaching, and professional outreach. Faculty in SHASS are known for excellent undergraduate instruction and advising. Units with graduate programs have established an equally enviable reputation for high quality graduate teaching and advising . Faculty duties for this position include teaching undergraduate and, potentially, graduate courses in Native American Studies. All faculty are expected to fulfill service obligations to their academic units, the university, and their professional communities.
