This program is for MIT scholars who want to find their voice, share their story, learn about blog writing and write one for the world beyond their lab.
Whether you have always wanted to try blogging, have a research story bursting to be told, or simply want to sharpen your writing skills for a broader audience, this program is for you. With two hands-on workshops and one-on-one support from WCC writing instructors, you will go from idea to a polished, published blog post.
What does graduate life at MIT really look like? The Writing & Communication Center in collaboration with the Office of Graduate Education (OGE), invites you to share your perspective through a newly redesigned blogging initiative. We want to hear about your hobbies, routines, quirky discoveries, favorite spots in Cambridge, research insights, productivity hacks, work-life balance…anything that matters to you! Simple steps to your first (or next) blog post.

Step 1: Register for this program to express your interest
Step 2: Attend Workshop 1 “Finding Your Story”
Discover what to write about, who your audience is, and how to shape your ideas into a compelling blog post. Leave with a clear concept and a plan.
Tursday, June 4th, 12-1:30pm, by Zoom
Step 3: Work with a WCC Writing Instructor
Draft your post and meet with a WCC instructor for personalized feedback. They will help you refine your voice, structure, and style.
Step 4: Attend Workshop 2: “Polish & Publish”
Learn how to revise your draft and how to put the finishing touches on your post.
Tuesday, June 9th, 12-1:30pm, by Zoom
Step 5: Continue Working with a WCC Writing Instructor
After the second workshop, continue working on your post and meet with a WCC instructor for more feedback until the post is ready for submission.
NOTE: Info session and workshops are open to anyone on campus. No prior blogging experience is required. However, submission of Graduate Blogs to the Office of Graduate Education is limited to MIT graduate students. If you want to publish your Graduate Blog, complete it any time between June 9th and July 15th to be considered for publication on the OGE Grad Blog. Posts selected for publication will receive a $150 honorarium. You can submit multiple posts.
