Communications

CHILE
From TVN.cl
Commentary by Douglas Morgenstern, 09/15/2001

This site from Chile presents the news as a media event, with icons allowing one access to various subtopics, including:
  • An interactive section to portray airplane impact on and explosions at the World Trade Center
  • An extensive photo gallery
  • A "multimedia" presentation of graphic/photo, an interactive representation of the event that is strangely "objective" in showing the impact and collapse as if it were to demonstrate a lesson in physics

Question to Consider

  • This site concentrates less on the human drama (although some is present in the photos) and more on the mechanics of the event itself. Some who access this webpage are interested in precise details of what happened, and receive a detailed presentation. Does this clinical approach dehumanize (and depoliticize) the event?
